Having already earned a spot in Rapzilla's 2014 Freshman top 10, James Gardin and KuroiOto deliver some music "that sounds good, and makes you feel good." From the first track "Problems" (with a hook copying Naughty By Nature's "Hey Ho" in the background), through to the insightful and impassioned flow almost reminiscent of Talib Kewli, this album is eight tracks of east coast-style flows. With influences such as Mos Def, Kanye, Chance and Kirk Franklin, it's no wonder that 'Living Daylights' brings a project that seamlessly fuses almost old skool style (the brilliant "Freedom"), great (occasionally R&B flavoured) vocals and a smooth flow. Gardin has wide experience outside the hip-hop world, he's got a deep interest in cultural unity and this passion permeates 'Living Daylights'. Production is very high and beats varied (the evocative soundscape of "City Limits" being particularly strong). What's not to like?
