Back in 1998 a group of Greek metallers released this debut which went relatively unnoticed until Ulterium Records picked up the album for re-issue. Since their early days, this power metal outfit have been known for a distinctive driving but melodic sound. There have been many changes in membership, but ever-presents Thimios Krikos and Manolis Tsigos have maintained a recognisable feel to their many recordings. At times, such as in the bombastic opener "Spacerunner", the sound of this emerging group verges on the technical. Speed metal is hinted at, only to return to a more melodic, plodding groove. With "The Waves Of Destiny" there is a more haunting ballad type structure, but at no time do this accomplished set of musicians slow things right down. Keys fill out the recording and add a touch of class without overpowering. In many ways this collection sets the scene for later outings of InnerWish, but it never really takes off. Let down by naïve sounding production, the drums sound like they have been filled with cotton wool and the vocals do not match up to more recent frontmen. Quieter tracks such as "Beyond My Soul" highlight tuning issues and expose weaknesses that are not apparent in their stronger albums. As a marker to chart the development of a noticeably underrated metal outfit, this recording shows the promise that has been subsequently realised. This package, however, lacks the quality to hold the listener's interest for too long.
