The Final album in the 'Psalms project' marks the end of a well-received series whilst Mr White refuses to go out with a fizzle. Those who have criticised Ian White's previous Psalms recordings for sounding 'all the same' will hopefully be quietened by 'On The Path' which wanders successfully in new directions rather than straightening out for a 'safe' finale. Co-produced by Chris Eaton of Amy Grant's studios in Nashville and using Amy Grant's musicians. Volume Six gains an extra dimension in musical calibre. This is typified in 'Psalm 138: Where Can I Go' which features a brand of moody acoustic guitar unheard of on previous albums. However, Chris Rodriguez (guitars) and company do not remove from White's music the original flavour which has earnt him popularity. The Belfast choir used on volumes one and three combine with his punchy vocals on tracks such as "Psalm 137: Babylon" to bring out sounds similar to the best moments from the first five volumes. This recording is an excellent note to finish on, appealing to the old guard who have followed White since his original vision in 1984 whilst maybe also attracting new listeners who have wondered what all the fuss was about before. In a broader sense this album pays tribute to a talented musician who through the 'Psalms project' has brought a fresh alternative into the Christian praise and worship set up.
