Although Honey are from Illinois, 'Lovely' makes a cool Devon soundtrack, laid back drum grooves mixed with guitars which go from chorusy to full distorted scream. The Choir's Steve Hindalong makes his mark on the production, in fact if Derri were the vocalist you could easily mistake the two bands, sound wise, which is no criticism! The songwriting sets it apart, this is a very strong album. Highlights include Paul Lagestee's creative bass work and the epic "Evergreen". The lyrics are not overtly Christian, in fact this is more like honest, personal poetry. A very personal and emotive album throughout. The mix is sometimes a bit vocal heavy at the expense of the guitars, giving it a pop sheen. But well worth checking out.
