This could, of course, have been a disaster. No one would claim that the polite pop of that famous Sydney megachurch is a natural compatriot for Littlehampton's gutsy rockers but in the same way that it suddenly made sense when veteran Graham Kendrick recorded for Delirious?' record label, the shared passion of these two Christian music heavyweights - to let everything go in an all out cathartic expression of praise to the King of Kings - makes this a surprisingly successful collaboration. And it's not all thanks to the d:boys. The five Hillsong tracks have some delightful moments, for instance the torrid guitar work on Marty Sampson's "Free" and the wistful vocal from Darlene Zschech on "Worthy Is The Lamb". But it's the gutsy, raw power of Delirious? which is most affecting. They bring a whole new dimension to "Rain Down", while the closer, a full 10 minute rendition of "History Maker", has some heart-touching improvised moments. There may be some d:fan snobs around who'll turn away from the project while it does have to be said that Martin Smith and co have possibly made a few too many live recordings. But all in all, this album succeeds in unifying young and not-so-young church groupings in reaching out for full on adoration of the living God.
