Fronted by Justine Berry with help from sidekick Anna Hall and three male compatriots, Hey Gravity! (I think the exclamation point is as important as the punctuation after Delirious?) make funky, punky power pop and they're big in France. Actually, not sure if that's true but their debut album was released on a French label back in February! Recorded with former Killers producer Jeff Saltzman, they do a great job of creating snappy guitar-driven indie pop tunes that bring to mind Chrissie Hynde, Blondie and PJ Harvey. Aiming fully at the mainstream, this debut album is brilliant from the perky opener "Risen (She Said)" to the closing "Wake Up". Filled with energy and packed with songs that sound like hits, I love the furious groove "Slipping Thru The Cracks" and the fabulous "Part Time Punk". As you'd guess, there's plenty of ironic humour lyrically and the band cook up a storm when it comes to their punky power pop riffs and hooks. A band you'll be hearing a lot of on Cross Rhythms radio this coming year.
