Helen has a diverse musical background, including 'The Sanctus Project', a modern re-imagining of a sung Latin mass. 'Sirens And Other Mysteries' is soft, reflective pop with sweet, melodious vocals that unfortunately don't always come through as strongly as they need to and a backing which is a tad too loud in the mix. There's a powerful lyric on "If That's The Way", written with Andy Baker, after Helen and her husband struggled with miscarriage and redundancy ("If that's the way that it has to be/I guess I'll trust your judgment with the things I cannot see"). The song is the EP's standout with some strong harmonies and a delicate piano. "I'll Be With You (The Wedding Song)" reflects on wedding vows although again the vocals don't come through as strongly as they might.
