After 18 months of life in Northern Ireland, Harmony Smith was appointed Senior Pastor at the Belfast Vineyard Church, and now over a decade later she releases her first studio work. Featuring six songs, written by herself and Andy Eaton, 'The Feast' demonstrates knowledge and experience of worship leading, as well as spiritual lyrics in keeping of the church's past. Kicking off with the title track with a relatively anthemic arrangement, "The Feast" is about Jesus' presence, which Harmony describes as one of Vineyard's core values. The EP doesn't let up on that theme; most of the six tracks revolve around the subject of his presence, though usually not in such a poetic or idealistic way. "Jesus, Pure & Holy" has a more gentle texture, but for me the highlight is the final track "Fairest Lord Jesus", with a quirky and atmospheric intro, although the timpani outro may be exaggerating the tone somewhat. Also, at times the backing feels a little thin, particularly on "We Will Rise" (whose intro and instrumental sections are quite empty) and "Home" when the electric guitar ascends the fretboard leaving the middle register rather hollow. But these are minor flaws and there is a vibrancy and passion in Harmony's vocals and sense of adoration in her lyrics which make this a recording which could touch the hearts of many worshipping Christians.
