The man behind the frivolous moniker is Liverpool-based singer/songwriter Greg Schofield and his debut mini-album sees the Frontline Church worship leader offer up eight songs that, as the accompanying press release puts it, aren't worship or Christian-based but instead "focus on themes such as love, life, loss and longing." With the help of experienced names such as producer and multi-instrumentalist Steve Pilgrim (Paul Weller), pianist Jez Wing (Echo And The Bunnymen) and bassist Martyn Campbell (Lightning Seeds), this is a competent affair that highlights Schofield's skills as a writer and a vocalist. Schofield delivers his songs in a spotless American accent that, together with some gentle acoustic guitar and the unfussy backing of his band, suit the melancholic nature of his compositions even if a tad more stylistic variety is needed to make individual songs stand out and stick in the memory. Nonetheless, this is more than a promising first offering from an artist with hopefully a bright future ahead of him.
