A collage of observations about contemporary life from a passionate prophetic perspective, this second album (originally titled 'Pulp Diction", fact fans!) from GRITS is a stratospheric leap. Containing huge grooves, creative samples, underground sounds and hard hitting lyrics, GRITS have a message and aren't afraid to tell it like it is! These guys ooze the spiritual maturity that allows them to touch hard subjects at depth without resorting to empty sloganeering. Tracks worthy of mention are "Mirage" which is a righteously angry attack on hypocritical behaviour in the Church whether it's brothers demonstrating a lack of purity by chasing women or indulging in homosexual practices. "I'm Comin' Home" is the old story of the prodigal son radical '90s rap style. My favourite is "People Noticin' Me" which contains the catchiest of melodies. GRITS challenge the empty negative messages of mainstream rappers in "Ain't Sayin' Nothin'" and the lack of talent of some Christian rap artists whose low quality work brings the genre into disrepute in the song "Gospel Rap". No danger of that here with this top notch performance. You've got to respect GRITS for pulling no punches and putting together an album destined to make an impact! Outstanding!
