Seattle's Gospel Song Union bill themselves as a "community of like-minded writers and leaders who have one thing in mind: legacy." In this case the current group of five bands take on Christmas standards. The Modern Post bring an upbeat "Angels We Have Heard On High" and an atmospheric "Come And Stand Amazed" with just a gentle synth background to Dustin Kensrue's vocals. Kings Kaleidoscope tackle "Joy Has Dawned" and "O Holy Night" with their laidback, slightly skiffle rock approach and Ghost Train cover "What Child Is This" with an eclectic mix of folk and rock that hints at Rend Collective. "Joy To The World" and "O Come O Come Emmanuel" are given the Citizens & Saints upbeat pop/rock treatment, somewhat reminiscent of the Sidewalk Prophets, while The Sing Team's vocal lead style brings a more traditional feel to "The First Noel" and "Child Of Glory". To summarise: a varied collection of Christmas standards given a contemporary feel and well worth adding to the festive collection.
