Over the years this recently retired artist has recorded several gospel type albums, mainly from the '90s onwards, when I think it is true to say that he discovered spiritual values, which seemed to have previously eluded him in his very long and very successful career. These tracks are pulled from two very good albums he recorded for the Word label, 1985's 'No More Night' and 1989's 'Favorite Hymns', the latter being a particular favourite of mine. On many of his big hits and albums he was often backed by strings and orchestral sounds making a very "middle of the road" sound rather than country. However having heard Glen a couple of times on stage just backed by a small group rather than a big orchestra this is, in my opinion, the best way to hear the singer. The backing on this CD is very minimal and not only is it very tasteful, it is also very country. These songs of faith illustrate what a wonderful voice Glen was blessed with. The first five tracks from 'No More Night' contain two stunning efforts, "When All Of God's Singers Get Home" and "We Will Sing One More Song", both of which Glen wrote and strike me as a real musical autobiographical statement. The other 10 tracks are from 'Favorite Hymns' and include standout versions of "Standing On The Promises", "The Lord's Prayer" and "In The Garden". If you don't possess either of the two previously mentioned long out of print albums, this is a CD to investigate.
