This Tuscaloosa, Alabama-based group formed back in 2008, and have released two independent EPs. 'Costs' is their full length debut. Gideon's name, which can mean "destroyer" or "mighty warrior", was not chosen by accident. Described in the press release as "no holds barred, in your face", the band here are definitely a powerful force lead by the spine-tingling roar of vocalist Daniel McWharter, Gideon blast their way through the nine tracks with supreme confidence. Tremendous guitar riffs ("Unworthy", "Brave New World") combine with forceful rhythms to complement the vocal assault perfectly. Judicious use of melodic vocals gives them more impact when they appear, as opposed to them being a staple of every song. In the future Gideon may look to give a little more variety in the song structures, however, their uncompromising stance is what gives them the impact that they have. A slot on the Cornerstone Festival bill in July, and their inclusion in Alternative Press' "100 Bands To Know In 2011" list shows that they are a band on the up.
