Geron Davis and his wife Becky were joined in their musical ministry in the mid 1990s by his sister and brother-in-law. The new group became Geron Davis And Kindred Souls and their first album was released in 2002. This is a 2006 live recording of the group made at the Davis' hometown church in Nashville (although Kindred Souls only get a mention on an inside sleeve of the CD), with the group supported by the very able Christ Church Singers choir. There are 61 minutes and 14 tracks of in-the-groove soul and funk/pop fusion worship here, with straightforward but never uninteresting or clichéd lyrics of praise and simple testimony. The majority of the songs are written either by Davis alone or in collaboration, with the music supplied by a guitar/keyboard band combining well with a string and brass section. There are some very good songs on here, notably the gentle "Mercy Saw Me" (which recognises that there can be tough times along the Christian walk) and "Evermore", which grows into a superb feel-good anthem of praise. This is a real celebratory recording that it is probably impossible to listen to without tapping your feet and getting to the end of without feeling really good about God.
