The world's best known gospel singer. Well, he certainly was once, through his work as soloist for the Billy Graham crusades of course. Very safe, acceptable, inoffensive presentation of the gospel in song and nothing wrong with that of course. I've heard people rave about Shea's singing, in fact technically there's never been anything very special about the voice. It's a perfectly unremarkable baritone/bass, with irritating flaws. However, as a man who aimed to communicate the song's message rather than gain personal applause for his talent, he came into his own and served with distinction. Didn't realise til now that he wrote the melody of the contemporary hymn standard "I'd Rather Have Jesus". Highlights include "Let Us Break Bread Together" and "When He Comes". The man is someone you have to respect and admire.
