Those with long memories may remember a Tyneside pop band from way back called Two Small Fish. Now the lead singer of that group returns as a solo singer/songwriter and, not only that, is taking the brave step of going full time. This four-song EP sampler is a taste of what will be coming on Gareth's Heading West Music label. It features nice songs which are crisply produced and feature good vocal performances. In the case of "Pray", there's a message that we clearly need here and yet even with Gareth's musical skills and heart to communicate, this selection of songs struggles to really engage the listener. It's all very pleasant but unfortunately not very memorable. In some ways he is reminiscent of the mellower end of James Taylor but I'd suggest Gareth needs to do a little more to arrest the attention.
