When I have heard some non-studio CD versions of live recordings I have often advised that you would do better to buy the DVD, but this works surprisingly well on its own. Perhaps the latest lineup - Adam Crabb (lead), David Phelps and Wes Hampton (tenors), Todd Suttles (baritone/bass) and Bill Gaither (bass) - has produced some fresh ideas. Have no fear the fabulous David Phelps is still in fine voice on the catchy opener "Love Is Like A River" and to add variety there are no less than six guest artists and groups on hand to add to an extremely varied and entertaining album. These are The Martins (with Randy Stonehill's "Shut De Do"), the Nelons, the Goodman Revival, Buddy Greene, Charlotte Ritchie and the Isaacs (whose contributions to "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow" demonstrate again how this is one of the most meaningful country gospel classics ever. If I had to pick a favourite it would be "Jesus And John Wayne", not only infectious but arguably one of the most country items Bill Gaither has ever penned. The centuries old hymn "How Can I Keep From Singing" is given a country makeover from Buddy Greene. To sum up, one of GVB's best albums for years.
