With their first full length release, this five piece hailing from Texas have produced an album that belies their experience and has the potential to get them noticed in what has become a packed genre. Containing all the elements of a metalcore band, Fit For A King deliver a 12 track offering that is full of no nonsense guitar riffs and breakdowns that are punctuated by a mix of shredding screams and fine clean vocals. Well produced, the energy of this young group is evident throughout. 'Descendants', however, is not just about raw power and grinding riffs, there are flowing melodies and an experimental edge with the inclusion of techno sounds and beats. The album opens with an airy instrumental, "Il Diluvio" which develops into an in your face onslaught. The best cut, "Messenger, Messenger" with its lumbering, relentless drive and technical guitar work over the top is typical of the best on offer. FFAK are also open about their faith and obvious Christian themes feature throughout the album. To add to the variety, the chilled penultimate track "A Love That Transcends Understanding" provides another facet to this talented group's work. There are still elements in this recording that could be polished up, but as a first outing, 'Descendants' has enough variety and invention to point towards a promising future.
