The genesis of 'Worship In The Waiting' was a period of down time for FFH supremos, Jeremy and Jennifer Deibler, during which they became involved in leading midweek worship at their Nashville church. The 10 songs presented here were an unexpected output of that time - a mix of well known worship songs by the likes of Tim Hughes ("Beautiful One"), Stuart Townend ("In Christ Alone") and Billy and Cindy Footes ("You Are God Alone") alongside self-penned tunes. These are all presented with a typically sparkly Nashville CCM sheen which, while perhaps a little derivative, makes the songs instantly likeable. However, because of the stylistic similarities to a wealth of other contemporary worship albums it also adds a touch of instant forgetability. That is, until "I'm Free" hoves into view with an uncharacteristic dose of soulful funk driven along by bass and Hammond B-3. The Brentwood Baptist Church Choir administers the required dose of gospel to the mix; all that's missing is a guest vocal from the late great Luthor Vandross and backing vocals by Michael McDonald to prevent it being the perfect modern soul number. The album's clear standout track! If only a few more songs showed this level of passion a 10 out of 10 rating might have been forthcoming. That said, 'Worship In The Waiting' remains a thoroughly likeable and listenable collection.
