With the post hardcore sub-genre saturated with vast numbers of releases this band from North Dakota bring something fresh. 'Phoenix' is packed with a message and heavy-yet-melodic tunes that have found a critical balance. It is no surprise that Josh Barber has produced this album, Josh having worked with EISM's lead singer Shane Ochsner's previous band Hands (not to be confused with the LA indie rock band of the same name) and Norma Jean. This is a release that will satisfy the listener searching for heavier music though with lyrics which can be clearly heard in between the heartfelt screams. Heavier tracks display a vocal style hinting at Project 86 while "Most Days" demonstrates a harder singing style not dissimilar to that of Brian 'Head' Walsh from Love And Death. "You Are" presents an emo flavour while closing the set is an atmospheric track that wouldn't be astray on a P.O.D. album complete with female vocals courtesy of Holly Ann. An impressive end from a band which could be Christian rock's next serious contender.
