Produced by studio king Daniel Lanois, Emmy Lou's new album is not going to please a lot of her hardline country fans. A lot of Lanois in this disc (very like his own album 'Acadie) with swirling soundscapes and intricate drum patterns. The cover of Julie Miller's "All My Tears" is a vocal masterpiece with the most eerie but powerful outro I have ever heard. "Grain Of Sand" speaks about how easily we can see God in creation while "Sweet Old World" and "Goodbye" are touching and beautiful love songs. I can't say if country purists will like it but this reviewer found it more interesting and touching with every play. Maybe this is the start of a new brand of progressive country music...and why not.
