A quarter of a century since she breathed harmonies onto the albums of Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris still carries herself with a grace and elegance few others possess. The queen of alternative country, who's worked with everyone from Dylan to Lambchop, remains as important a figure in the expanding scene as ever she was. 'Spyboy', named after the bright three-piece who back her on this live LP, offers a fresh twist on 14 songs sprinkled throughout her career. Hams' effervescent, fleeting voice stands strong on mournful ballads "Love Hurts" and "Prayer In Open D", which includes the lines: "With the Rock of Ages in my bones/Someday I know he'll lead me home." Buddy Miller's delay-laden guitars glitter on "Where Will I Be" and "All My Tears", written by wife Julie who adds her vocals to the track. Throughout 'Spyboy' Harris' Christian leanings are laid plain, no more than an eight minute finale "The Maker". An excellent introduction to an enduring artist.
