The End Time Warriors take a giant leap forward with their second album. There are three or four jams here tough enough to pack a dancefloor and its crying out for exposure to the soul audience. M C Free, Johnnie Jam and M C L King have got their raps together, they've dumped a lot of the Bible bashing judgementalism that marred their first album and they're experimenting with rhythms ranging from Latin freestyle ("The Balm' is good enough for Mic Mac Records), house ("This Is The Life") and a wonderful mangling of the Osmonds' "One Bad Apple"! My favourite cut is "God Is" with a bottom-heavy retro-breakdance feel while the busy beatbox guffows of "Yo Mouth" exudes sassy confidence. Shame the theology is still a trifle suspect though. What precisely Maggie Thatcher's fall from power has to do with "one world government" prophecy is beyond me. But let it pass. The sentiments of "This Is What Time It Is" are right even if the detail is open to question. And the rhythm kicks!
