Whilst metal from India may be uncommon, this progressive outfit from Chennai do not hold anything back on this, their debut release. Opening with the booming drums of "Sole Creation", we are introduced to a sound that reminds me of King's X. Minor chords sit over a groove metal rhythm section that allows guitars to pulse and weave throughout. The title track from the collection is a power metal number that highlights the excellent production skills of Jochem Jacobs, giving each instrument its own definite space in the mix. The majority of the material on this recording sounds current and progressive, apart from the '80s melodic ballad "Third Day Risen". This slows down the pace of the album and sounds slightly out of place. Throughout the recording, lyrics are clear and forthright and obviously focussed on themes of Christ's love and life. My personal favourite cut is the driving "Addiction" which blends elements of European and American metal to form a base for some intricate guitar work and double pedalled drums. Although there is nothing that is particularly innovative among the 12 tracks on offer, Dwhetstone have shown that they have the musical chops to produce an expansive and classy sound. If they had placed a little more emphasis on the driving, crushing side of their arsenal, this would be a debut to shout about.
