What often separates the wheat from the chaff in the competitive world of self made tape toting is a band's ability to discern when less is best. This is something Dust have still to grasp. The first three tracks on 'All Or Nothing' set my feet tapping with their hard groove-rock held together by Hendrix riffs. But, although Marc James is an inventive guitarist, mistimed torn breaks, over zealous vocals and a reticence to bring plodding metal arrangements to a close mar the rest of this nine-track album. Clearly, the band need a hard headed producer to prune their over ambition and give them a focussed push. And if that happens Dust may yet get to wear their evangelistic hearts on their sleeves beyond their native St Albans. Oh, and the band are after a new bassist too.
