This is amazingly the debut album from the Chertsey-based singer/songwriter who's been around for years performing with everyone from the World Wide Message Tribe to Prom Praise. Produced by Danton Supple, who has worked with the bands Coldplay and Starsailor, it's no surprise that this album sounds very similar to that typical style of melodic performance pop rock. With the piano being the central focus, each track creates that atmospheric feel you'd expect to find on your typical Coldplay album. However, Doug makes this his own with such heartfelt lyrics and a soft yet soaring voice. "The Mystery" is the standout track, bright and crisp in its melody, and, of course, a chart hit after Doug pressed a copy into the hand of Radio 1's Chris Moyles. New single "Obstacles" is the perfect sequel, with its beautifully reflective mood sure to be very appealing to radio listeners. "Something On Your Mind" is a catchy opener and the harmonica on "Since You'd Been Down" gives this song real intensity. The fast pace on "Shine" is down to some great snare work on the drums and the album ends with the magical "My Delight". Wonderful that at long last the vocal talent of Doug is getting deserved recognition.
