This country-tinged troubadour has done great service to the Gospel down the years and his powerful way with narrative lyrics shows no sign of drying up. His latest album kicks off with "Shepherd's Song", a stirring song about the shepherd's experience of the good news of Jesus' birth. Then we get the bold declaration of the Spirit descending on the Son, a powerful revelation of who Jesus is, the One who forgives all sin. The musical style of songs moves through country to pop to blues and back again. "It Is Written" tells the story of the temptation of Christ and his response to that. With other tracks reminding us of God's love and care for each one and sound advice for living "Give It For Love" we then revert to more story songs where Jesus heals a man and on again to the parable of the Sower. In summary this is a good selection of songs from one of Christendom's most skilled painters of word pictures.
