DOC offer us 12 new tracks of serious groove, located in the middle ground between Ice Cube on the one side, CJ Lewis on the other, with a definite R&B influence in there poking its head out of the rapper's jungle rhythms. Not unlike the harmonies of DC Talk at times, though not as diverse as DC each song has its points of interest, it usually turns out to be the bass line, with melody a close contender. And it's wonderful to hear funk legend Bootsy Collins - now reportedly a Christian - coming on with some serious bass riffs. It may seem an unusual route to expound systematic theology: "Boom bah for Jah, fe-fi-fo-fum the fivefold is gonna get ya," but it's all in there somewhere.
