This latest record from the Knoxville, Tennessee-based veterans starts off with the cathartic "Dear X You Don't Own Me" which describes breaking free from hate, shame and anger. Lyrically powerful, and musically strong, it is rather let down by a an overly familiar sounding string arrangement that feels as if it has been tacked on, and was not part of the song's original conception. It has to be said that though the songs here are not bad there is a lack of adventure in the project. Tracks like "Watch It Burn" and "Shot Heard 'Round The World" are the type of chest beating battle cries that Disciple can churn out in their sleep. "Collision" and "Eternity" are more introspective, and are actually better songs, if less immediate, while remaining true to Disciple's heavy style. You actually get the impression that this is a band treading water, performing within their comfort zone and not pushing the boundaries. The group's lack of a permanent drummer doesn't help the situation, as three were used for recording.
