Now here's a band who've been a bit too quiet for a while! Welcome back to Ireland's December Blue who follow up their debut album with a three-track single release. Like their debut, the ace in December Blue's pack is the incredible vocal talent of Sharon McPheeters whose voice reminds me of a cross between Ashley Cleveland and Maria McKee. On the single "Say" December Blue display the rockier side of their personality with a strong riff and some great guitar and organ parts. Nice vibe and catchy chorus and the best thing they've ever recorded. Perfect single material! However the second song "Some Days" only bounces along nicely without ever really catching fire and is a little disappointing. The bonus cut "Not Like You" is a fab live rendition of a track from the debut album delivered in unplugged fashion leaving Sharon's voice firmly out front. It's been two and a half years since the debut was recorded and this is just a taster as the band are due in the studio in the summer to record their next album and here's hoping they have a few stonking songs up their sleeves for that!
