Anyone who saw David at either Roots & Branches or Reformation Of A Generation last summer will know about this Aussie prog-rocker with the spiky bleached-blond hair and surfer shades who belts out his music at a zillion decibels with the sort of energy that is exhausting just to witness. That same anyone, having experienced the 1998 model, coming to these albums might be a little confused. Here is Mr Evans soberly dressed in jacket and casual shirt, with a hairstyle that wouldn't offend your granny, hanging out with Darlene Zschech and Geoff Bullock and the rest of the Hills Christian Life gang. These albums date from 1990 and 1992 respectively; the second is the more radical, mainly due to some immaculate lead guitar from Phil Yates; the title track "Spirit (No Other Way)" was used at both festivals, and songs like "So Real", "Learch In Church" (a gravelly Carman-esque rap), and "Done Your Best" are typical of his current work. "Spirit" is also excellent value playing time-wise, over 57 minutes for 11 songs.
