David Evans, for those who have not been to recent Cross Rhythms festivals, is a musicianary who is also a tireless encourager of grassroots Aussie music and has been a big noise (literally) for over 10 years, ever since his time at Hillsongs with Pastor Brian Houston, Darlene Zschech et al. His first love has always been progressive pop/rock and he freely admits that his early stuff was not very radio friendly: seven and eight minute opuses that go on and on (and round and round) do not make good playlist material. All that now has changed, because this CD contains some of his most accessible songs, along with a truly awesome "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross" - Isaac's old words have never sounded so powerful! It starts deceptively quietly, David intoning the lyrics gently and huskily, but as verse three kicks in ("See from his head," etc), the guitars begin to wail, David cranks up the vocals into the stratosphere and the words hit home - majestic and moving. This is a "must get" album for all Evans maniacs and if you've never listened to the man's music before, get this and get blessed.
