Texan singer/songwriter David Dunn's latest album sees him build on the strength of his well-received BEC Recordings debut 'Crystal Clear' with a stunning collection of songs that tackle some pretty deep theological and life questions whilst maintaining a pop sensibility that will appeal to the masses. Formerly a contestant on TV's The Voice, Dunn's vocal performance is out of this world and proceedings kick off with the punchy "Kingdom" which brings the concept of Heaven into immediate focus before offering up immensely thought-provoking lines like "in the end, we all began to contemplate how we could love a world that spits into his (Jesus') face" in "Open Arms". Elsewhere, Dunn suggests that God uses the brokenness in our lives to build something better in "Ruins" and "Masterpiece" whilst a longing for a return to a childlike faith in "I Wanna Go Back" - previously released as a single - will resonate with many. There is an overall electronic pop feel to the album's sound and the production matches Dunn's inventiveness as a singer and writer to ensure that each track is memorable in its own right. The perfectly-pitched and quite simply heart-breaking title track - written after the tragic sudden death of his two year old niece - could well qualify as one of the most moving songs ever written. Yes, it - and this release - is that good.
