David Crowder in the dance/electronic classification? Yep. Reportedly the best selling CD at Edinburgh's Frenzy event, thanks to the sextet's stunning performance there, this is an excellent mini-album. One does wonder, however, what new fans of the David Crowder Band's guitar-driven modern rock will make of this eight-song remix project. For 'Sunsets & Sushi' is nearer to New Order than Delirious? and lives up to its subtitle 'Experiments In Spectral Deconstruction'. Notwithstanding that, these electronica style re-assemblages of songs from 2003's 'Illuminate' classic are great, in part because "No One Like You", "Open Skies" and "O Praise Him" are such great worship songs. Utilising M-Audio/Propellerhead Reason software, some of the sampling and sequencing is inspired though one reviewer's suggestion that some moments sound like "the Human League on Paxil" show that American cousins still aren't able to figure out the warp and woof of today's electronica. Overall, a fascinating diversion while we await the band's 'A Collision' album.
