Euro country, rather than the familiar American country, therefore no lap steel, fiddle or layered backing vocals. However, Crucifer's front man uses his earthy vocals to create a unique feel for the 10 self-penned songs making up the album. There is a certain pathos captured in the songwriting, helped along by the blues harp and guitar licks. You know it's safe to buy some albums just by seeing who produced it: when I saw that it was Paul May who produced 'The Road Home' I knew that something of quality would follow. Tight rhythm section, with Paul playing the neatest Telecaster/Marshall country guitar licks that ever a man is likely to hear. Dave's voice injects character into the arrangements, though some may say he drifts ever so slightly off pitch, but that of course can be endearing in itself - Steve Harley, David Essex and even Johnny Rotten used it to good effect. Dave recently won a local award for songwriting and these songs show themselves to be acceptable in Christian and non-Christian arenas.
