Dave has, of course, over 25 years' experience of working in worship music and there can be few believers who haven't sung his classic songs like "Let There Be Love Shared Among Us" and "Abba Father". This is Mr Bilborough's first new album for quite awhile and the veteran has written all the songs with his son producing the project. Other relatives have added backing vocals giving 'The Song That I Sing' a strong family feel. Dave's voice supported by his accomplished acoustic guitar playing forms the backbone of mainly folk-tinged melodies. The stripped down feel is enhanced on some tracks by a pleasant North of England-style brass band and on others a string quartet. There are tracks where Dave's voice seems to be really straining particularly in his higher register so the wonderful voice of Cathy Burton is a welcome addition on a couple of tracks and particularly lifts "God Is Love". The lyrics reflect Dave's walk with God over the last few years and the package features some enlightening sleevenotes to aid the listener to really understand how the songs have grown and show Dave's heart. I can't say I can hear a new Bilbrough classic on this set but it is clearly still the work of a man with much to contribute to the worshipping Church.
