Thankfully avoiding the temptation to call this Roots Praise, Kingsway offer the finest album in Dave's patchy recording career. The back sleeve blurb attempts to flag down purchasers with the sentence "Dave Bilbrough returns to his acoustic music roots with a live album of congregational songs, set against a backcloth of Celtic and cajun influences", which sums it up quite well save for the cajun nonsense. ('Lift Him High' does feature some hot accordion playing from Geraint Watkins but is light years away from the Sound Of French Louisiana.) Dave's immersion into folk-tinged acoustics is a joyful success. Even songs previously heard in non-roots settings like "How Wonderful How Glorious" take on a delicious new groove with a mandolin driving it along while much of the new material is high on memorability. Recommended.
