Philadelphia-based Darryl comes from a musical family - all seven of his siblings being musically and vocally gifted. In 1989 he teamed up with the newly-created band Judah to record 'Gonna Love Him'. In the following months the group played live alongside a string of popular gospel acts, including Bebe Winans and Margaret Bell Armstrong. Now "an ordained minister at Fresh WORD Ministries," Henry combines music with pastoral teaching in a project that seeks to tackle the theme of male/female relationships, particularly in regard to marriage. Showing how seriously he takes the subject, a teaching book accompanies the CD, as do one or two music videos. Henry's self-composed lyrics are original, and bring focus to the one whose love is the fountain of life. His vocals, plus those of the occasional female featured guest, are smooth and clear. The music is moderately paced, laid back and exudes a rhythmic flow of smooth jazz, R&B and contemporary gospel arrangements. The resulting sound is accomplished and pleasant and it all makes for a relaxing, inspirational listen, although it has to be said that amidst a healthily competitive gospel market, there's little here that can be considered truly memorable.
