Reviewed by Trevor Kirk Darrell, one of America’s most acclaimed worship leaders, is to minister at Cross Rhythms ’99. Darrell is (to quote the biog details on the enhanced CD – even better value for PC users who can run the features) a twenty-something graduate of Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, who is now based with his wife in Mobile, Alabama, and has his own support group River Flow Ministries. The second release on Integrity’s new Vertical label (“Vertical Music is God to man and man to God; Psalm 40:3”). “Freedom” is full of good quality acoustic rock that is addressed directly to the Lord in accordance with the above definition, with up front lyrics of praise and worship that express thanks (“So Good To Me”), adoration (“I Am In Love With You”), and commitment (“I Lay Me Down”). Darrell wrote or co-wrote all the 10 songs on the album, which runs for over 61 minutes, and I was mightily impressed. The River Flow Band give meaty support to Darrell’s acoustic guitar and vocals, production is up to the usual Integrity high standard, and the whole thing is a very enjoyable listen. If he can carry on in this vein, Mr Evans will soon be able to stand alongside labelmate Kevin Prosch and not suffer in the comparison. Recommended.
