This is Evans' 12th album in 19 years. Best known for his hit song "Trading My Sorrows", he has served at numerous churches within southern and eastern America as a worship pastor and has toured all over the world. He's also been nominated for a Dove Award and so, having said that, I must admit to my surprise that this album didn't fully register with me. 'Fearless' starts with "The Lord's Prayer", with the verse, chorus and bridge at times feeling incongruous - not in any way caused by the quite enjoyable off-beats, but more so that it appears to be a case of shoe-horning words into a melody and rhythm. "Clean" contains a bridge which feels to be pushing Darrell outside of his vocal range and is a little difficult to listen to. This album is packed with plenty of truth with lyrics like "I have found his grace to be complete" and "Jesus, you're my provider, you always take care of me" and though lyrically there is nothing wrong with this album one gets the feeling that Evans appears to be trying to find a new sound for this project by seeking to implement loops, back beats and hints of R&B and ends up with a musical menagerie rather than doing what he has previously done so well in producing solid acoustic-driven sound. There are some great songs and Darrell is clearly talented, but these songs could be delivered so much better.
