The first full album from Dunfermline-based Dan Lyth follows on from previous EP releases and a growing online presence and sees the talented singer/songwriter and producer in fine form. From the outset, Lyth's wispy vocals immediately set the tone for an intriguing album of introspective songs and he has worked hard to supplement potentially sparse acoustic songs with an array of leftfield percussion, instruments and harmonies to create a captivating aural landscape. Lyth's knack of conjuring up evocative images through his own brand of kooky lyricism helps rather than hinders his attempts to subtly communicate the reality of faith in his songs and subjects such as God's faithfulness ("Holiday"), trusting in God ("Ben Nevis") and faith amidst adversity ("God Help Me Tonight") are presented in a way that will connect with believer and non-believer alike. With a debut album of this calibre, it will be interesting to see what this gifted artist does next.
