Not as seriously funky and streetwise as previous outings there is more emphasis here on ballads (like the delicious "Dare To Believe" where the listener is exhorted to have faith that God will perform a miracle) and the light funk atypical of one of the albums producers Chuckii Booker. Together with gospel-popmeister Bryan Lenox and ol' reliable Fred Hammond (he of the fat bass and fatter waistline) there's a variety of feels on this set. My favourite cut is "You Can Always Come Home" which features a rap from hip hop pioneers Run DMC, while Hammond's remaking of Phil Collins' "Another Day In Paradise" is better than the original. Clearly trying to cross over there's a distinct absence of God-lyrics, love being the substitute word.
