In 1979, Cliff Richard's career was totally turned around by him choosing to record the Alan Tarney penned and produced song "We Don't Talk Anymore". The number one hit revitalised his career and meant that the early '80s saw the charts once more filled with Cliff's pop songs but by 1987 when this album was released he'd been quiet on the charts, preferring to concentrate on the west end musical, Time. The hit singles from 'Always Guaranteed' put Cliff back in the charts. Tarney wrote, produced and played most of the instruments for the album creating tracks for Cliff to sing on his afternoons off from performing Time. The formula clearly worked as the album became the best selling album of Cliff Richard's career. The opening single "My Pretty One" reached number six in the charts and acted as a solid introduction to the album but it was the release of "Some People" in the summer of 1987 that really caught the imagination. The simple love song with its glossy production really hit people and it reached number three in the charts. 'Always Guaranteed' was propelled by the single's success. Elsewhere there are plenty of well crafted, well produced pop songs captured here. "Forever" has a soulful sultry sound and Cliff is in fine voice whilst "Remember Me" was also released as a single. For a man who has been so critically maligned during his career, Cliff is undoubtedly the most successful British recording artist of all time. This album demonstrates why.
