Ireland's Clay aren't exactly prolific so it's great to see this long awaited album out at last. The theme of 'Broken' is being a Christian in today's world. The album is a good mix of songs, including their single releases "The Sinner’s Song" and "Make Me". They vary between being led by James and Catherine and I would describe them as being both passionate and relevant to today. They are backed up superbly by the other members of the band, Ross, David and Billy, who've clearly taken a much harder approach to rock than apparent on their 'We Can See' debut.. The heartfelt lyrics are backed up with great strings and percussion, having obviously been influenced by some of Creed’s not so heavy tracks. I found a couple of the songs here spoke to me, but I don’t think that was the intention. It is more something to put on and enjoy. In my opinion, Clay could give some of the signed bands a run for their money; they have to be taken seriously. I got the feeling that they were just being honest about who they are. Surely that is what music is all about.
