There has been a gap of a few years since CeCe's last recording during which time she has been co-pastoring a church in Nashville with her husband. Oozing confidence and as would be expected from an award-winning diva, there are high production values with some particularly effective horns, grooving electric piano and, on the old school "Hey Devil", CeCe is backed by the still powerful Clark Sisters. Elsewhere, there is smooth and gentle encouragement on "Peace From God" that cleverly plays games with the words "piece" and "peace" whilst swirling strings and restrained gospel choir emphasise the availability of God to each person. "Why Me (Lord)", the country classic, demonstrates further the variation that CeCe has in her vocal toolbox, her vibrato wringing the emotion from each syllable as she pleads with God to understand how he could have chosen her to serve him. On "Run To Him" handclaps and a staccato bass drive off this strongly Motown influenced song that could have time warped straight from the '60s. CeCe Winans has most definitely returned to the fold with this high octane, polished performance.
