Some albums lose cohesion because too many styles are attempted leaving a fractured picture. Not so 'Beyond The Veil' from a singer originally from Trinidad and now living in London. There is a consistency running throughout the plentiful tracks, songs that are not mean in their length either. It's a happy yet odd twist because this album was heralded as being a mixture of styles, which can be a bit off putting when considering purchasing an album as you are never sure what you are going to get. The tempo of the first six songs is slow to medium, or to use a musical term, andante, which means walking pace. The pace quickens with "Let Your Glory Fill The House", which is a church choir type tune while still retaining Caroline's hallmark, which is firmly stamped on the tracks. Even when she ventures into Latin American territory in "Who Is Like The Lord" it's still clearly Caroline. Her lower range voice comes to us neat, void of effects; she's a good singer and can write captivating songs. The album bears the marks of a small team studio effort rather than a band performing in unison. The keyboards are an important part of the album with some older "Hill Street Blues" type phrases going on.
