Worcestershire-based singer/songwriter Carol Lee Sampson has become quietly admired over the years for singing songs that reach deep into the listener's heart and this 2015 offering is no exception. Covering different aspects of relationships, Sampson tackles unrequited love in the punchy opener "Addicted" and the soulful "I Try" whilst tracks like "Here For You" and the heartfelt "Returning" tell of perseverance and redemption respectively. Sampson's seemingly effortless vocal performance is what brings each song to life and she is able to display both power and tenderness as required and quite simply never puts a foot wrong throughout. Producer/guitarist Dave Draper wisely maintains an unfussy musical backdrop which acts as the textbook complement to Sampson's perfectly-pitched lyrics and vocals with an overriding Americana feel dominating proceedings in fine fashion. Undoubtedly the standout moment, the stunning "Hallelujah Is Our Song" - written for a friend suffering from cancer - highlights something of Sampson's Christian faith as well as her ability to offer up an incredibly poignant piece that will touch the hearts of many.
