Whilst he is both an accomplished songwriter (for artists like Kenny Bishop, Calvin Hunt and The Perrys) and a worship pastor in Tennessee, Caleb Collins has chosen an unusual and distinctly "retro" step for this project. He has recorded "an album of classic hymns with fresh, new arrangements. . .that showcases all my musical interests." Collins is evidently passionate about the power of both the solo piano and the full orchestra (represented here by the ubiquitous Nashville String Machine). On 'Classic' he utilises both, along with his measured yet powerful vocals, on the likes of "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Jesus Loves Me". Whether we really needed to hear new versions of these timeless standards is beside the point; Caleb Collins gives his all and describes their relevance to him and all other believers in this polished, professional collection.
