‘Back Home’ does exactly what it says on the cover. This is the Houston minstrels’ fifth label project and marks a clear return to their beginnings as a folksy, grassroots band. It’s a collection of catchy tunes and articulate lyrics which both inspire worship and provide a good deal of listening pleasure. The debut single, “Only Hope”, with which the album opens, has already made waves in the US CCM charts and there are 11 other tracks on here which make this a wonderful album for those who enjoy jangly folk rock. There are great harmonies and skilful instrumental performances, which meld together voices, guitars, percussion, accordions and others to delight the ear and warm the heart. You could well use some of these songs in a worship setting (“Awake My Soul” and “Beautiful Mystery” are prime candidates along with the opening track). I particularly enjoyed “You Created” and “Hands Of The Potter”, but there isn’t a bad track on this CD and the group have certainly come ‘Back Home’ in every sense. Go and buy it!
