The cover of 'Slow Revival' has a moody photo of Bryan Duncan sitting on the steps of what looks like an old church building, suggesting a laid back blues album. But the opening track "A Heavenly Light'cracks into upbeat funkiness. Thereafter the whole album is very much a soul and funk affair from the veteran American CCM man. As many will know by now Bryan has an exceptional voice which has most impact when allowed to soar. The songs here range from soulful ballads to driving funk tracks and are generally good. A couple of the songs are excellent. "Don't Look Away" with its soulful backing vocals conveys the message that it can sometimes be inconvenient and uncomfortable to look at those in need (and indeed to look at Christ himself) and urges the listener not to look away. My favourite, and who knows perhaps the key to the moody album cover, is the gently melancholic "Lonely Tonight". It includes the line "I know you love me and I know you care, I know you're always there but I'm lonely tonight," which for me expresses nicely some of the inherent loneliness and restlessness of the human condition. Soul music indeed.

I have this cd by Bryan; talk about your pop/rockin R & B sounds; this cd has it. The opening song "A Heavenly Light" has just that sound. I just luv the song that follows, "United We Stand" great song for you Bryan; it features the group Anointed: and what a great collaboration of voices, just magnificent!! The talented producer Dan Posthuma also adds his vocals for the cd. "Don't Look Away" has some great vocals
for the background; great sound! Bryan had a hand in writing every song for the cd; this is a wonderful
collection of songs! I believe "Traces of Heaven" was the first song I heard on ccm airwaves from this cd.
This is quite a top fave of mine, just luv this song! A
great co-writer for the song also, ccm vet Michael Omartian (Michael was also co-producer of the cd): & Michael also adds his keyboard talents for several of the songs on the cd. "My House" is another cd fave, has a nice upbeat ccm sound. "Things are Gonna Change"is another stand out song; has hit written all over it:great lyrics. The poignant "Safe Harbor" closes
the cd; the perfect song to end:luv Bryan's vocals on this song. GOD Bless! -Don
